As we all know and experience on an every day basis, time can be a rare commodity. Between working, raising children, being a Mom or Dad, paying bills, grocery shopping: Life can pretty much put a person into the nuthouse! When are we supposed to find the time to fit exercise into our grueling schedule?
As a Zumba instructor, I can say with certainty that I have encountered this question on numerous occasions. My response was the same to all of my students.. You MUST make time for yourself, or you will drive yourself crazy. That, coupled with the fact that we live in a world that is forcing fast food, high saturated fat foods, sodium, and soft drinks into our diets! Health is very important and it is of the utmost importance that we make that time to make sure that we keep our hearts healthy and maintain a healthy weight range. Easier said than done, right?
Should I go to a Zumba class or should I do it from home?
Now that we have established that we need to make time to get healthy, this is where there advantages and disadvantages of working out from home come in. Should you attend a local Zumba Fitness Class or should you buy a DVD and do your exercise from home? This is my opinion, so please take that with a grain of salt… however, being a Zumba instructor for the past 5 years has taught me quite a bit.
Even the longest mile begins with the first step…
Choices, choices, choices…
My recommendation is that you do what feel most comfortable doing. Some of us begin being self-conscious of our bodies. We think that we are going to walk into a Zumba class and that everybody there is going to be fit and toned, like you see on television, and that you will not fit in. That is a falsehood. People of all shapes and sizes do Zumba classes. You will be shocked at how inviting people are when you attend, and how they will work with you to make you feel comfortable. If self image is your issue, give a Zumba class a shot! You have nothing to lose (other than inches) and everything to gain. Zumba Fitness is all about love, health and friendship. I have formed a myriad of relationships with students of all shapes and sizes. These are life-long relationships that I am talking about.
Zumba classes are generally pretty cheap. They average about $7.00 per class and are available in pretty much every locale around the world. Many gyms are adding them to their roster so that the classes are (kind of) free, but it is incorporated into your gym’s monthly membership fee. Do your research and see what suits you best.
Now for those that just physically can not find the time to attend a class, you DO have options! Zumba Fitness offers a bunch of DVD options for you to choose from. These DVDs are a huge success for those that wish to workout from home. Here is a Zumba 15 Day Fit DVD sale for $5.00 (Use Promo Code NCFINC to receive 10% off) – too bad it’s this weekend only. The regular price is $30.00 – I highly recommend it.
Working out from home gives you the freedom of allowing you to do it at your own pace, on your own schedule, on your own terms. This solution is sometimes better for people. But you can always mix and match your Zumba routine as your schedule sees fit! Try doing some Zumba from home and attending a Zumba class every now and then! Before you know it, you’ll be hooked and you will watch those pounds melt away, all while making some great friends and having a blast!
